RAD Examinations...

The Royal Academy of dance offers an internationally recognised portfolio of examinations and assessments designed to motivate and encourage students of all ages and ability. There is no upper age limit and both male and female students can enter.

The RAD examinations offer students with:

  • achievable goals to work towards
  • recognition from the world’s largest examination board
  • qualifications that are fully accredited by the UK regulatory authorities
  • the impetus to achieve their personal best in a fun and nurturing environment

The graded examinations syllabus provides a broad practical dance education and develops technical, musical and performance skills. It incorporates Ballet, free movement and character.

  • Pre-Primary in Dance (suitable from 5 years)
  • Primary in Dance
  • Grades 1-8 (free movement and character introduced from Grade 1)

The vocational graded examination syllabus provides an in-depth study of Ballet, develops technique, music and performance skills and introduces pointe work for female candidates. Vocational examinations are suitable for students from the age of 11 years.

ISTD Examinations

The examination structure of the ISTD is designed to cater equally for those pursuing dance purely as a leisure activity and for those who wish to progress to making dance their profession, either as a performer or dance teacher.

Graded and Vocational Graded Examinations in Modern Theatre:

  • Primary
  • Grades 1-6
  • Intermediate Foundation
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced 1 & 2

Jazz Awards: Jazz awards must be taken in concession

  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold

Graded and Vocational Graded Examinations in Tap Dance:

  • Primary
  • Grade 1-6
  • Intermediate Foundation
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced 1 & 2
